Sarasota, Florida, October 15, 2026 – Behlen Mfg. Co. announced today that it will close its Behlen Building Systems manufacturing facility in Sarasota, Florida, by the end of 2026. Production currently handled at the Sarasota facility will transition to the company’s manufacturing operations in Columbus, Nebraska.
This decision is driven by the high production costs of manufacturing in the southeast region along with higher supply chain costs (material and freight) and our continued focus on operating efficiently and remaining competitive in the market. Consolidating production in Columbus will allow Behlen Building Systems to better utilize existing resources, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen its competitive position in the marketplace.
“This was a difficult decision, particularly because of the impact it will have on our employees in Sarasota,” said Tom Boal, Chief Executive Officer of Behlen Mfg. Co. “We are grateful for the dedication, hard work, and contributions of our Sarasota team. While the decision to close a facility is never easy, we must continue making strategic decisions that strengthen our operations and position Behlen for long-term success.”
The company anticipates completing the closure December 18, 2026. Behlen is committed to supporting affected employees throughout the transition, including providing retention incentives, career counseling, and job placement assistance.
Behlen Building Systems will continue serving its customers through its Columbus, Nebraska, manufacturing operations, with an ongoing commitment to quality products and dependable customer service.
